Par exemple, on aurait pu dire \u00ab do everything \u00bb ou <br \/>\n\u00ab anything it takes \u00bb ici.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n\n<h2><a id=\"post-13361-_fo48y63j8ihl\"><\/a>CAE Reading and Use of English : Exemples d\u2019exercices<\/h2>\n<p>Voici un exemple d\u2019exercice que vous pourriez retrouver dans la partie <em>Reading and Use of English<\/em> du CAE le jour de l\u2019examen.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Consigne<\/span><\/strong> : You are going to read an extract from a magazine article. Six paragraphs have been removed from the extract. Choose from the paragraphs A \u2013 G the one which fits each gap (1 \u2013 6). There is one extra paragraph which you do not need to use.<\/p>\n<p><em>Note : Dans cet exemple, nous n\u2019allons vous faire deviner que la premi\u00e8re question, c\u2019est \u00e0 dire <\/em><strong><em>quel gap<\/em><\/strong><em> correspond au <\/em><strong><em>missing paragraphe 1<\/em><\/strong><em>. Vous pourrez retrouver les cinq autres questions sur notre plateforme GlobalExam.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>HBO\u2019s new series: Chernobyl<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Svetlana Alexievich, the Russian-speaking, Belarusian writer, is well reknowned for her novel \u00ab\u00a0Voices from Chernobyl\u00a0\u00bb, which reported the oral history of the Chernobyl disaster. Now a major HBO TV series, Alexievich said it was one of the easiest books for her to report; she said this was because of the fact that none of her interviewees (i.e. those who lived in the disaster-affected) knew how they were supposed to talk about the disaster. She stated that, for her other books, she interviewed people about their experience of the Second World War, the Soviet war in Afghanistan, and the dissolution of the Soviet Union.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MISSING PARAGRAPH 1<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>So when it came to interviewing the Chernobyl survivors, they were free to access their own stories and memories, because no one had previously told the story. There was little to no information about the disaster, which was due to the tight controls held by the Soviet media. There were no books or movies or songs.<\/p>\n<p>GAPS<\/p>\n<p><strong>A<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The series final perfectly encapsulates the Soviet system in certain scenes. For example, the court system was accurately portrayed during of the trial of the three men charged for causing the disaster, particularly it portrayed the power held by the prosecutor. During the episode, a member of the Central Committee overrules the judge, who then looks to the prosecutor for direction\u2014and the prosecutor gives that direction with a nod. This accurately evidenced how the prosecutor wielded more power than the judge.<\/p>\n<p><strong>B<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Before addressing the element that the series got terribly wrong, I want to mention that the cultural aspects of the Soviet Union in the 1930s were reproduced with the greatest accuracy ever seen before in Western and Russion television or film.<\/p>\n<p><strong>C<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>An obvious mistake in this respect concerns the fact that the divisions between different socioeconomic classes in the Soviet Union were not accurately portrayed. For example, Valery Legasov, a member of the Academy of Sciences in the series, is featured living in a similar squalor as a Ukranian fireman, which would not have been the case in real life.<\/p>\n<p><strong>D<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Alexievich\u2019s book concerned the Chernobyl disaster: one of the world\u2019s worst nuclear accidents caused by an explosion of one of the reactors at the Chernobyl power plant. The book was originally published in Russian in 1997, more than ten years following the event.<\/p>\n<p><strong>E<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Flowing from this was increased media coverage in Russia and abroad, as well as two new documentaries about the disaster. However, in the past year, two more books, one by a historian and the other by a journalist, have attempted to tell the definitive documentary story of the disaster.<\/p>\n<p><strong>F<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>With the extensive media reporting for all of these other events and periods in Russian history, Alexievich found interviewees had a habit of speaking about their experiences in a way that was different to their actual personal experience and private memory, and more similar to the narratives that the media had adopted.<\/p>\n<p><strong>G<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The scenes of scientists acting as heros and confronting bureaucrats by explicitly criticizing the Soviet system of decision-making were equally repetitive and ridiculous. For example, Legasov asks rhetorically in Episode 3, \u00ab\u00a0Forgive me\u2014maybe I\u2019ve just spent too much time in my lab, or maybe I\u2019m just stupid. Is this really the way it all works?
