Elle est \u00e9galement \u00e9crite sur l\u2019\u00e9cran de l\u2019ordinateur. Apr\u00e8s avoir \u00e9t\u00e9 lue, une consigne vous explique que vous avez <strong>15 secondes<\/strong> pour vous\u00a0pr\u00e9parer puis <strong>45 secondes<\/strong> pour vous exprimer. D\u00e8s lors que la question est lue, le compte \u00e0 rebours se\u00a0met en marche. Apr\u00e8s 15 secondes, une nouvelle consigne est lue\u00a0: vous avez d\u00e9sormais 45 secondes pour vous exprimer, et le compte \u00e0 rebours se met en marche. A l\u2019issue des 45 secondes, votre\u00a0r\u00e9ponse est enregistr\u00e9e automatiquement. Firstly, a person\u2019s career can be either worthwhile, or not; some people work as doctors or important scientists, for instance, which are undoubtedly beneficial to us as a whole. However, most people\u2019s careers are not notable for anything except their ability to provide for their families. Secondly, children have almost unlimited potential, so while you yourself might not change the world, your offspring might. A good example would be Albert Einstein. His parents were clever and talented, but if they had only pursued their careers, the world\u2019s understanding of the universe would have suffered a lot as a result.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><b>Conseils<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> : L\u2019examinateur ne va pas juger votre point de vue mais votre fa\u00e7on de vous exprimer et de structurer vos arguments. Petit conseil rien que pour vous, les examinateurs adorent lorsque la r\u00e9ponse est nuanc\u00e9e, c\u2019est \u00e0 dire que le d\u00e9bat n\u2019est ni tout blanc ni tout noir donc il faut apporter des arguments et des contre arguments.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>TOEFL speaking \u2013 Exercices 3 et 4<\/h2>\n<p>Comme pour les exercices 1 et 2, les exercices 3 et 4 sont bien encadr\u00e9s\u00a0: on vous annonce d\u2019abord que vous allez lire un texte sur un sujet particulier. Lorsque le texte apparait, un compte \u00e0 rebours de <strong>45 secondes<\/strong> se met en marche. A la fin du compte \u00e0 rebours, il vous est annonc\u00e9 que vous allez \u00e0 pr\u00e9sent \u00e9couter un extrait audio sur le sujet. Il durera environ <strong>1 minute<\/strong>. This reproduction is used to both replace dead or dying cells, repair injuries and also to help the body to grow. The professor uses the example of a cut finger to illustrate the time the process takes, as well as how it works. He also goes on to say that the process is typically much faster during infancy, and uses the examples of both children and dogs to highlight the rate at which the process functions among the young. The professor then talks about mitosis as a form of reproduction. This concept speaks about the potential loss or gain from potential alternatives when one choice or course of action is taken over others. In its simplest form, the opportunity cost is the loss of the benefit that would have been enjoyed had a particular choice not been taken. This feeds back into the concept of scarcity that we discussed in the previous class; the idea that resources such as time or money are finite, and therefore choosing one thing often means not choosing something else.\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All of you guys are familiar with this concept; it applies to our daily lives as well. When we\u2019re selecting a movie to watch, say, the opportunity cost is whatever else we could have done during those two hours. As students, many of you could have used those two hours to do further study for your exams, say, or worked a couple of hours at a shop. You could even have watched another movie; I\u2019m sure all of you have watched films before and thought, \u2018what a stinker!\u2019<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So, how does this relate to business? Well, businesses have two types of costs. Explicit costs, and implicit costs. Let\u2019s imagine, for instance, that a company needs to buy $200 of office supplies, and sends one of its workers out to procure them. The explicit cost is the $200 for the office supplies. The implicit cost is the money the company paid the employee while he was performing that task. The company would have had to pay that employee whether he purchased those supplies or not, but he would have been doing an alternative task instead. Therefore, this activity has implicit costs of both time and money. What could the employee have achieved instead during the time he spent at Staples buying ink cartridges? Whatever that might have been is therefore the opportunity cost.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><b>Explication<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> : Always make sure you fully explain the examples given, and how they relate back to the concept!<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><b>Suggestion <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: In the lecture, the professor states that opportunity cost is the potential loss or gain from choosing to do one thing and therefore not choosing to do another. She gives two main examples of this. The first one is one which relates to people\u2019s everyday lives, that of watching a movie. The opportunity cost of choosing to watch one movie is that you could have used that time to study, work at a part-time job, or even watched a different movie instead.
