What are some suggestions to do well in the Bright Spanish reading test?
Make sure you get plenty of sleep the night before the test. Whilst reading, try and imagine what the situation is that the sentence refers to as it will help you to focus. Is it happening in a restaurant, at work or at home?
Read very carefully but keep an eye on the clock as you have only 30 seconds for each question. Time yourself answering similar questions before the test so you get a feel for how long you have got.
Don’t worry if there are some words you don’t understand – look for the key words that help you understand the general meaning of the sentence. Read the choices of answer and decide which ones aren’t correct. The one that is left will be the correct answer.
Read the sentence carefully and try to predict what type of word is needed to fill the gap. Is it an amount, a thing or an action? Are there any grammatical clues in the sentence that might help you guess the missing word? Look at the choices you have and see which one is closest to your prediction.
In the months before the test get plenty of Spanish reading and grammar practice by doing some online language tests. If you can’t find any Bright exam examples then try some other tests such as BULATS.
A general Spanish course covering grammar, vocabulary and reading skills would be very useful. Tailor made classes with a personal tutor would be an excellent way to practise. Make sure you explain what test you are going to do.
