Are there any tips and suggestions on how to do well in the Bright reading test?

As always with tests, it’s a good idea to get lots of sleep the night before the test.  Whilst reading the sentences, try and imagine what the situation is that the sentence refers to as it will help you to focus. Is it happening in a restaurant, at work or at home?  Read very carefully but keep an eye on the clock too.

Don’t worry if there are some words you don’t understand – try to look for key words that help you understand the general meaning of the sentence.  Read the sentence and try to summarise the main idea then look at the options and see which one more closely matches with your summary.

Read the sentence carefully and think about what grammatical form will fit in the gap.  Should it be an adjective, noun or a verb? What type of word is needed – an amount, a thing, an action? Then look at the options you have to choose from. Which ones are closest to grammar and type? Are there any other grammatical clues in the sentence that might help you choose the correct answer?

In the months before the test get plenty of reading and grammar practice by doing some online language exercises or tests. If you can’t find any Bright exam examples then try some other tests such as BULATS.

A general English course covering grammar, vocabulary and reading skills would also be useful.  If you are able to have classes with a personal tutor, this would be mean that you could really tailor the classes to help you with the Bright Test. Tell your tutor that you are studying for the Bright Test and they will adapt their lessons accordingly.
