Exemple 1 : IELTS Academic

You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.

The two pie charts below show hand dominance in identical and non-identical twins.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Write at least 150 words.

Correction :

Suggestion – The above graphs show the distribution of hand dominance among sets of identical and non-identical twins. In both groups, right-handedness is extremely common, accounting for 85% of participants in the first group and 89% of participants in the second group. However, comparing the two groups shows some differences in the patterns of hand-dominance for left-handed and ambidextrous individuals. Among identical twins, left-handedness, while still much less common than right-handedness, was twice as common as ambidextrousness, at 10% and 5%, respectively. In non-identical twins, however ambidextrousness was almost three times more common than left-handedness, with totals at 8% and 3% of the population respectively. Altogether, this demonstrates that while right-handedness is still by far the most common, other handedness patterns differ between sets of identical and non-identical twins.

Exemple 2 : IELTS Academic

You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.

The graph below shows Non Governmental Organization revenue by source and season.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Write at least 150 words

Correction :

Suggestion – NGO revenue, as shown in the above graph, varies considerably by source and season. Sales proceeds are at a peak in the spring at $9 million, and then sharply decline in the summer to $3 million and remain approximately steady for the rest of the year. Private donations are somewhat more steady, starting at $4 million in the spring and steadily increasing to $5 million, $6 million, and $7 million over the course of the year. Corporate sponsorship is more variable, beginning at an initial $2 million and rising sharply to $8 million in the fall. Overall revenue is relatively stable around the $15 million mark, with a slight dip to $10 million in the summer season. There are no easily observable trends or correlations among income sources or seasons, as private donations show a slight increase in the summer when other revenue sources appear to drop.

Exemple 3 : IELTS Academic

For a research project, a student asked 200 classmates at her school to record some of their physical activities. Each student recorded if they did each activity at least three times a week.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Exemple 4 : IELTS General Training

You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.

You saw an advert for a combined guitar and English course in Southampton, England but you have a few queries to ask and you want a discount.

Write a letter to the course director. In your letter,

  • explain your interest in the course
  • describe your problems
  • find out if a discount is possible

Write at least 150 words.

You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Begin your letter as follows:

Dear Sir or Madam,

Correction :

Explication :

This letter details the problems mentioned in the task using polite language phrases for requests such as ‘Would it be possible for me to get..’ and other formal standard letter phrases.

Suggestion :

Dear Sir or Madam,

I’m writing in response to the advertisement on your website for the combined English and guitar course in Southampton, England.

I have always wanted to learn to play the guitar, so I’m very interested in attending your course, however I don’t want to buy a guitar here and then bring it with me. Is it possible for me to hire a guitar for the course and then give it back at the end? Also, I’m a complete beginner so I just wanted to check that the course is suitable for me because it didn’t say anything about levels on the advert.

The other problem I have is that I will need to leave the course in the second week for four days, to attend a wedding. That means I’ll miss almost a week. Would it be possible for me to get a discount and maybe I could use that towards the hire of the guitar?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours faithfully,

Simon Jones
