IELTS General Listening Test Samples and Exercises
In order to ensure a good band score for the IELTS Listening test, you need to familiarize yourself with the test format, experience the types of tasks you will be obliged to undertake, review your answers and compare them with the correct ones, and of course, test yourself under timed conditions.
We are going to address one part at a time.
IELTS General Training Listening Practice Test Part 1: Short Conversation
Listen to all the instructions carefully, start answering using a pencil on the question paper. Remember, on exam day, You will hear a recording of about 5 minutes, and you will only be allowed to listen to the audio one time.
Tip: Be sure to read the instructions! It seems obvious, but for this section, it’s easy to miss them. Many candidates miss writing no more than three words.

IELTS General Training Listening Sample Test Part 2: Monologue
Keep in mind that the recording will be 5 – 7 minutes long, and you can only listen to the audios one time on Exam Day.
Tip: Familiarize yourself with the British accent! Even though different types of accents are used in the IELTS (American, Canadian, Australian). However, the main accent used is British, along with the vocabulary.

IELTS General Training Practice Listening Test Part 3: Long Conversation
This part consists of a conversation between 2 to 4 speakers about an academic topic for 5 to 7 minutes.
On exam day, you can only listen to the audio one time.
Tip: Spelling counts! You need to spell correctly to be able to answer the sample questions in this section.

IELTS General Training Listening Sample Test Part 4: Lecture
This part assesses your English academic proficiency with 10 questions. The recording is a monologue for 5 to 7 minutes, usually of a university professor giving a class on a scientific or literary topic.
Of course, on exam day, you can only listen to the audio one time.
Tip: Try to anticipate the responses. Before the audio begins, have a quick look at the questions. This will help you know what to listen for in the audio.
