What are some suggestions to do well in the Bright German reading test?
As with most tests it’s advisable to get plenty of sleep the night before the test. Whilst you are reading, try and imagine what the situation is that the sentence refers to as it will help you to focus. Is it happening in a restaurant, at work or at home? Read very carefully but keep an eye on the clock as you have only 30 seconds for each question.
Don’t worry if there are some words you don’t understand – try to listen to key words that help you understand the general meaning of the sentence.
Read the sentence carefully and think about what type of word is needed to fill the gap. Is it an amount, a thing or an action? Are there any grammatical clues in the sentence that might help you choose the correct answer? Try to predict the missing word. Then look at the options you have to choose from and see if any are close to your prediction.
In the months before the test get plenty of German reading and grammar practice by doing some online language tests. If you can’t find any Bright exam examples then try some other tests such as BULATS.
A general German course covering grammar, vocabulary and reading skills would also be useful. If you are able to have tailored 1 to 1 classes with a personal tutor, this would have obvious benefits.
