Do you study or do you work?

Why do you like going into work every day?

What are your main duties?

Do you know your next-door neighbors?

I’m working at the moment. I work as a supply teacher, so if a teacher is sick or on leave, I get a call, or sometimes an email asking me to come in to replace him or her for the time they are absent. So I get to go to different schools all around London, which is nice, discovering different parts of the city. Most days, I work with kids aged 8-10, so that’s Years 4 and 5 and I normally teach a variety of subjects including math, history, science and English grammar, but my favorite subject to teach is actually music because I love seeing the kids interact with the instruments and learning how to play as a group. It’s very positive for their personal development and team building skills.

Ejemplo de ejercicio: Speaking Part 2

Describe a piece of art.

Don’t forget to include: What type of art it is / What this piece means to you / What this piece makes you feel.

Modelo de respuesta:

The piece of art that I am choosing to describe would be one of Dali’s paintings. The one with melting clocks. I think this type of artwork is surrealism. Dali was pretty famous in the first part of the twentieth century and, more so now, after he passed away. His artwork always features different elements, things coming from different worlds, things from our world but taken to new dimensions. Something that is present in a lot of his artwork is something that we call “doublings.” There are things from his past mixed in with things from the present, etc. What does melting clocks mean to me? It means that time is not real. Time is just what we consider it be. This piece makes me feel like I could be interested in art. I’m not really a big art person but this is the first piece of art that I saw that I enjoyed and I would want to have at my house.

Ejemplo de ejercicio: Speaking Part 3

Let’s consider creativity…

  • Do you need education to be creative?
  • What other types of art could you talk to me about?

Finally, let’s talk about the creative process.

  • What do you do to prepare for a new project that you know will challenge you?

Modelo de respuesta:

  • What a question! No, I don’t think you need an education to be creative. I think you can pull creativity from anywhere.
  • My favorite kind of art is music. I am covered in musical tattoos and I sing. I tried to learn to play the ukulele but I can only play the basic chords; I basically just strum and sing. Music is definitely my other creative outlet.
  • As far as project preparation, if I know that it is going to be difficult, my first reaction is “Help me please!” I call people I know, or don’t know, and ask them to help. I write big lists on a Word document.
