How Can You Register for the IELTS Exam Online?
You are able to register online with your test center. If you would prefer registering in person, then inquire with your test center; you should be able to download the needed forms from an exam center’s website, fill them in and drop them off at the exam center.
An official government ID, a passport works well if you are a foreigner staying in Hong Kong, is necessary for registration, and the same ID is required for admission to the exam on your scheduled day. Additionally, picking up your exam results requires the showing of the same ID.

What Happens After You Register?
Notification of your online registration should be sent to you from the exam center. If you don’t receive notification, then don’t hesitate to contact the IELTS exam center. The various sections of the exam take place on the same day normally, but the speaking component can fall on a different test day within the same week.
How Much Does It Cost to Pass the IELTS in Hong Kong?
The current fee in the Hong Kong area for an IELTS exam should be 2,150 HK dollars; Prices can change, so you should check an exam center’s website for current prices.
What Are the Payment Methods?
In order to pass the IELTS in hong kong, there is a fee you have to pay and it varies depending on the test version you are choosing:
- IELTS General Training on paper or computer: HK$2,200
- IELTS Academic on paper or computer: HK$2,200
- IELTS for UKVI: HK$2,340
- IELTS for Life Skills: HK$1,515
There are two payment methods for the IELTS test:
- EPS and credit cards. Keep in mind they are not applicable to registration by post.
- A bank draft to be drawn on a bank in the HKSAR or crossed cheque from a bank account in the HKSAR.
- Cash is NOT accepted.
Can the Exam Be Refunded in Case of Cancellation?
You can be refunded in case of a cancellation only if you cancel the exam 5 weeks before the test date – you will be eligible for a 75% refund of the test fee. If you cancel less than 5 weeks before the test date, you will not be eligible for a refund, except if:
- A serious medical condition that prevents you from performing or attending.
- Evidence of trauma, bereavement, or another type of significant catastrophe.
- Military service.
If your test center accepts your case, you will receive a 25% refund. Keep in mind that your exceptional circumstance and supporting evidence have to be sent to your test center no later than the 5 business days after the test date.
The refunds might take up to 8 weeks to be processed.
Is It Possible to Change the Date of the Exam?
Yes, you can transfer your test date, but only if:
- It is 5 weeks before the official test date, and it will be free of charge.
- It is less than 5 weeks before the official test date, and you will be charged a 25% administration fee.
- It is less than 3 days before the official test date, you will not be able to transfer the test date, except in exceptional circumstances. Contact your IELTS test center for further information.
When and How Are You Going to Receive Your IELTS Test Results?

P.S: Do NOT collect your TRF from the test center.
Your results are received in a Test Report Form (TRF). Your overall bandwidth score and the section bandwidth scores will be mentioned on the TRF. The TRF is the official result and is used for official purposes such as immigration and university admission. The official results will be available to you 13 days after taking your test (paper-based) or 5-7 days (computer-based).
Your exam center Test can either post your Test Report Form to you, or you can pick the TRF up in person (show your official ID). You should check with your exam center regarding the details.
Normally, you will receive one copy of your Test Report Form. If you are applying to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), then you will receive two TRFs. You have to provide the exam center with proof of your application to IRCC; otherwise you will not be issued a second Test Report Form.
If you have indicated institutions to receive copies of your IELTS exam results, then these will be sent automatically for you. However, any additional copies will have a small administration fee.
