Guide on How to Register for the Exam in Austin, Texas

The registration must be done on the IELTS USA online registration system. Before you register, make sure you have an ID document at hand. The same ID must be brought on the test day. The accepted documents are: passports, US Permanent Resident Card, or US Employment Authorization Card.)

Step One

The first thing you will need to do is choose the appropriate test version depending on whether you are sitting for the IELTS for work, study, or immigration purposes. Then, you will be asked to specify if you need any special arrangements for the test day. After you have selected the month in which you’d like to take your exam, you will choose the test location, and a number of dates will be displayed to you.

When your selection process is done, the start time for your exam as well as the address of the test venue will appear on your screen. Since your Speaking exam can take place on another day, you will have to select a date and a time slot for the interview. Make sure to check the address of the Speaking exam venue, because it is different from the main test venue.

Step Two

The next step is to create an account with your personal information. If you are under 18, your guardian or parent should submit their personal information and book a test for you.

You will be asked to upload a copy of your ID document, and once you have completed your application, payment of the test fee can be made online. You will then receive a confirmation email and a reference number that allows you to access the Test Taker Portal.

Which Payment Methods Are Accepted?

You can pay online with your credit card (Visa, Mastercard, Discover or Amex), or you can pay via credit card form by completing a Credit Card Authorization Form​ ​and emailing it to ​[email protected]

Can You Get a Refund?

This depends on your situation. If you booked a paper-based test, you will need to request a cancellation more than 5 weeks before your test day. You will then receive your refund minus 25% of the administrative fee.

If you booked a computer-based test, you can cancel your test date more than 3 weeks before the exam day. You will also receive a refund less the administrative fee.

If the cancellation is due traveling restrictions, you will be refunded 50% of the test fee if you notify the center by providing proof.

Test Day Transfer

Test day transfer is also possible if the request has been submitted 5 weeks prior to the exam day for paper-based tests and 3 weeks before the exam day for computer-delivered tests. You will be refunded your test fee less the 25% administrative fee. However, if the date transfer is due to a medical condition, the request can be submitted less than the required time period mentioned above.

Changing the Test Format

You can also transfer from the paper to the computer format and vice versa. The cost of the transfer is 10% of the cost of the test.

A second request to transfer the test date can be submitted in case of a medical condition. You will receive a 50% refund. Make sure you inform the IELTS test center about your request by sending them proof.

When Will You Receive Your Test Results?

You will receive one copy of your Test Report Form 13 days after your test.

How Frequently Does the Austin Test Venue Organise the IELTS?

What IELTS Score Is Required to Enroll in Texas Universities?

If you want to enroll in a university in Texas, you will need to check the minimum band score it requires. The average band score that Texas universities require is 6.0. However, there are some universities, such as Texas Health and Sciences University and North Central Texas College that do not require a high band score (4.5 and 3.5 respectively.)

The highest minimum band score is required by University of Texas Health Science Center, Houston (7.0) and Texas A&M University, Fort Worth School of Law (7.0).
